The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg invites applications for a
Software Engineering Position (m/f/div) (Ref. 355).
in the Planet and Star Formation Department. The successful applicant will develop a code module for the numerical software toolkit PLUTO working in the group of Dr. Mario Flock in collaboration with Prof. Andrea Mignone from the University of Torino.
Expertise in the development of grid codes for either fluid / plasma dynamics, intermediate / advanced knowledge C/C++, as well as publication in this field of research are highly appreciated. We are especially looking for applicants who are interested in the development of adaptive mesh refinement. For more information on the PLUTO code see http://plutocode.ph.unito.it/.
Your tasks:
The goal is to develop a dedicated adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) module for the PLUTO code. This includes a serial and parallel block structured AMR routine for both fluid and particle modules at different dimensions and geometries. Load balancing strategy and performance optimization are desirable.
Your profile:
Applicants should have a master degree in astrophysics, physics, software engineering, mathematics, or a closely related field. A PhD is desirable but not a requirement for employment.
Our offer:
The appointment will be for a period of two years. Funds for publications, travel and computer equipment will be provided. The preferred starting date is the June 1st, 2023 or after. We offer very challenging tasks in an international working environment. Remuneration is in accordance with TVöD, depending on qualifications and professional experience, level Entgeltgruppe 13. Social benefits are granted in accordance with the regulations of the civil service.
